Burna Boy vann kategorin “Best International Act”, han befann sig på plats och tog emot sitt pris tillsammans med sin mamma och manager, nigerianska entreprenören Bose “Mama Burna” Ogulu. Det är artistens andra vinst på BET Awards – 2020 tog artisten hem samma kategori. 2021 är artistens framgångsrikaste år internationellt med Grammy vinsten för albumet “Twice as tall”. Kvällens mest prisade artist var rapparen Megan The Stallion som tog hem kategorin “Best female hip hop artist”; “Best video of the year” och “Best collaboration” för hennes samarbete med Cardi B på singeln “Wap”; “Viewers Choice award” – “Savage remix” (2020) med Beyoncé.
Legendaren Queen Latifah prisades med “Lifetime acheivement award”, rapparen DMX som dog i april 2021 hyllades med ett framträdande av Busta Ryhmes, Method Man och Swizz Beats som framförde rapparens låtar.
